"As editor of Living Aboard, I wish I had a dozen Carolyn Corbetts. Her work is exemplary. Her articles are interesting, informative, and popular with our readers. She is a real pro ~ meets deadlines, checks her facts, follows our guidelines and understands the publishing business. Best of all, she's a good writer and knows how to weave a story."
Linda Ridihalgh, Editor, Living Aboard

"Carolyn is an independent thinker, which is essential for a publication such as HeartLand Boating where writers are expected to come up with their own story ideas. She has exemplified professionalism with each story she has written. Assignments have always been submitted in a timely manner, and she makes an extra effort to ensure that all of the necessary pieces are in place ~ from the story and unusual sidebars to colorful photos and numerous sources ~ to make a story as informative as possible for the reader."

All you folks that are in a hurry to check out my clips and credits, may be excused now ~ you've got the basics.

Dying for details? Well, then…

Prior to playing with words for a living, I taught first and second grade for 14 years. At the ripe old age of 35, I resigned and sailed off into the sunset. Literally.

With two afternoons of day sailing under my safety harness, and some serious training tying knots around ketchup bottles, I set off for seven months of sailing the Bahamas aboard Godspede, a 37-foot sailboat. For the next eight years I divided my time between the boat and a cabin nestled in the Minnesota woods. I fell deeply, passionately in love with both the ocean and writing.

My journey took a turn inward when I moved ashore full-time, as I developed a strong interest in all aspects of well-being ~ physical, spiritual, and emotional. My present path is a quest for personal growth. I meditate, practice yoga, and walk each day. And I'm blessed with a remarkable teacher on this adventure in awareness.

Neither therapist nor theologian, Mizzen is my mentor.

Ah, Mizzen! Feline friend and self-appointed supervisor, each morning she settles into her chair near my desk. She watches as I write, perusing the project of the day through sleepy eyes. Totally in touch with her inner tummy, she welcomes work breaks that feature "Whisker Lickins." Mizzen's motto for mindful living? Take time to "purr the cat."

I do. And I write. That's who I am.
